Principal Investigator Takaji Wakita

Thank you for visiting our website on the current situation and recommendations of infection prevention measures against COVID-19, as revealed by a research study on nightlife businesses.

Since June 2020, when the first wave of COVID-19 started to subside, we have observed the occurrence of patients and clusters in so-called "nightlife businesses." Therefore, starting in the summer, we initiated this research study with the objective of clarifying the current situation in populations that are likely to be at high risk of infection, by combining PCR and antibody testing with epidemiological information obtained through visits to establishments, interviews, questionnaires, etc. with a focus on nightlife businesses.

This research study has been conducted over the course of about 6 months, and is still ongoing. Its provisional interim results are coming together, and we started to see many things that apply not only to nightlife businesses and their users but also to restaurants/bars in general and their users. Accordingly, this prompted us to summarize and communicate what we have found in this research through this website.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage into 2021, wreaking havoc globally. With the prolonged containment measures, I am sure that mean many people are experiencing COVID-19 fatigue. It's also concerning that, while COVID-19 can be fatal to people who are in their 40s, 50s, and above, many young people are becoming complacent. However, we've also found that there's a certain number of young people who are suffering from long-term effects of the disease after recovering from it. Therefore, the recommendations we compiled based on the findings of this research are more useful and important than ever before. We hope that they will help you in your daily infection prevention measures.

Finally, we'd like to thank the clubs that cooperated in this research study for an extended period of time, sharing with us their sincere thoughts on how to control infection despite their business challenges and concerns about potential damage to their reputation.
